Best known as a place to wind down after a long work day, but for three weeks this spring, Garden State Hotel will also be helping to kick-start your morning. It's teaming up with Melbourne coffee royalty St Ali and us, The Bucha of Byron, to host a daytime pop-up that's sure to put a little extra pep in your step.
From October 8 to 26, the pub's Flinders Lane-facing section will transform into a cafe-style operation, opening at 8am each weekday. Drop in early for a St Ali caffeine fix — they'll swing you a discount if you bring a reusable cup — along with virtuous grab-and-go breakfast treats, like gluten-free spiced banana bread and granola-topped yoghurt pots.
Head in on your lunch break and you'll find a slew of fresh wraps, sandwiches and bowls — think, roast chicken breast teamed with black rice, tahini and tomatoes. For something sweet, you'll be able to grab gluten-free carrot cake, too. Take yours to-go, or take a load off and enjoy it in the pub's famed beer garden.
The lunch menu will feature four bowls, including the lemon pepper chicken bowl with roasted Nichols chicken breast, forbidden black rice, shredded greens, pepitas, broken tomatoes and tahini and a green machine bowl with super grains, broccoli, shredded spinach and kale, egg, tahini dressing and super dukkah, as well as a range of wraps and sandwiches made in house daily with organic produce.
Created with sustainability in mind, the entire menu will be served in biodegradable takeaway containers and a discount will be offered to those who bring a reusable coffee cup.
To drink, there'll be seasonal fresh pressed juices, smoothies, St Ali coffee and of course, Bucha of Byron kombucha, both on tap and by the bottle.
The collaboration pop-up will run from Monday 8th – Friday 26th October and trade Monday to Friday, from 8am at Garden State Hotel, 101 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.
